ZHI LING – In 2008 Jo Slater met and took refuge with Dharma King Dechan Jeuren – MahaVairocana Buddha, lineage bearer of the Hanmi Esoteric and LinJi Chan schools in China. She received her Dharma name – Zhi Ling.
Dechan Jeuren stayed in Brentwood, Chelmsford and Leigh-on-Sea on his visits. Temples were opened in Chelmsford and Brentwood and Zhi Ling felt very strongly that a Temple should be opened in Leigh-on-Sea.
In April 2015, after a lot of hard work and a lot of blood, sweat and tears, the dream was realised when the MahaAmita Temple was opened by the Mayor of Southend-on-Sea. The only Buddhist Temple in the Borough, Zhi Ling was then invited by the Mayor to present the Buddhist flags to him at the Southend Borough Annual General Meeting, which he accepted on behalf of the Borough.
In 2016 she was invited to become the Buddhist representative for SACRE (Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education) for the Southend Borough and currently sits on the panel.
The Founding Director of the Centre, Zhi Ling is an ordained Buddhist teacher and runs meditation and healing sessions weekly and Mindfulness courses monthly. She is a huge advocate of teaching and promoting the benefits of meditation and visits schools, groups and organisations within the local community giving talks and workshops.
Her personal philosophy is to be as honest and truthful as is possible. She tries to abide by her Guru’s wishes to “Forgive everyone, help everyone, respect everyone.”
If you are interested in Zhi Ling visiting your school or organisation or would like to bring a group to visit the Temple, please call the Centre or email directly to discuss.
Frank Waters – Met and took refuge with Dechan Jeuren in 2008 and has been practicing the techniques taught by him, ever since. Frank has spent the majority of his life working in the health industry, as a masseuse, osteopath and healer. Frank is a very talented spiritual healer and leads classes every Thursday at the Centre. Frank is a Director of the Centre.
Alex Crawford – Alex’s first formal contact with Buddhism was with the Triratna Buddhists. He attended a number of retreats and was a regular at their East London centre for some years, eventually living in the community. He also attended teachings of the FPMT, a Tibetan Buddhist group. Being involved with the FPMT saw him traveling to India, Nepal and various European countries, attending teachings of the Dalai Lama and other very accomplished teachers, and simply ‘hanging out’ with like minded people. Alex became a student of Master Dechan Jueren in 2008 and is the Vice Abbott of the Dari Rulai Temple in Chelmsford. Alex’s philosophy is to lead a simple, largely uncomplicated life by being truthful and compassionate and by not becoming overwhelmed in his own and others complexity. Alex feels he has been incredibly fortunate to be allowed to transmit some of Master Dechan Jueren’s meditation practices. “Master Dechan Jueren’s meditations are here for all to practice by his incredible pure compassion, as traditionally these practices are not offered so freely to members of the public“. He invites you to come and sample them to benefit yourself and others.
“We have a wealth of practical methods to help bring resolve to people’s problems whether physical, emotional or spiritual. We are here to help you, no matter what your faith/belief/denomination.”
